About Heidi

Heidi Honeycutt  (me) is a film journalist based in Los Angeles, California. She is also a new media journalist and consultant and web designer and has a master’s degree in journalism and mass communications.

She has written for numerous online and print entertainment magazines like Film Threat, CFQ, Femme Fatales, Zink,  Bloody-Disgusting.com, Fangoria, Dark Side, Hustler, and more. Her work has also appeared on The Wittenburg Door, Afterellen.com, Bitch Magazine, and probably many more places over the years. Heidi is getting old and can’t remember them all.

She is the co-creator and editor of film news site PlanetFury.com and she is currently writing a book on the history of female horror film directors. She produced, wrote,  and directed the short film Wretched in 2007. On top of these amazing accomplishments that her mother should take more seriously, Heidi  is the co-director of the annual Viscera Film Festival in Los Angeles, the first women’s-only genre film festival in the world, which shows only short new horror films made by women AND also she’s the director of the Etheria Film Festival, which shows only science fiction and fantasy directed by women.

Heidi is a staunch feminist and theorist about women and gender in horror films. In 2004 she created the website Pretty/Scary, the first horror website devoted to women, which was changed into FanGirlTastic.com in 2010, and then into PlanetFury.com in 2011, and continues to write about women directors of genre films. Her news website PlanetEtheria.com is all about women directors of horror, science fiction, and fantasy films.
